Laura Eakins from the UT Department of Astronomy will be here to share an  overview of the exciting stuff to see in the Texas night sky for the rest of the year and of the upcoming solar eclipses that will be visible in Central Texas in 2023 and 2024. She will also talk about the public viewing opportunities that UT has with telescopes on campus and out in west Texas at McDonald Observatory as well as a couple of the big research initiatives that UT Astronomy is involved with such as the recently-launched James Webb Space Telescope and the upcoming Giant Magellan Telescope in Chile.

Lara Eakins is the Public Outreach and Visiting Scholars Program Coordinator in the UT Department of Astronomy. She received her undergraduate degree in Astronomy from UT in 1994 and has been working in the department ever since. She conducts one of the public telescope nights on the UT campus and runs the solar telescope at the Physics, Math, and Astronomy Building for K-12 school visits and special events.
